This welcoming and sunny country is surrounded by 5 different seas: Mediterranean, Ligurian, Adriatic, Tyrrhenian, and Ionian.  There is a long coastline of about 9 000 kilometers. Also, nature has generously granted this country all the boasted beauty. That’s why yachting vacation will provide you with the best scenic views of the Italian gorgeous islands and shores. Moreover, 60 % of popular European destinations including some world-famous landmarks are concentered exactly here (The Colosseum, The Leaning Tower of Pisa, The Doge's Palace, Pompeii and etc…).

Tourists prefer the south direction more often due to the calm and measured sailing advantages. However, the majority of yachtsmen would rather choose to take a boat trip in the western part of the country – the territory from Sicily to Liguria.

When it comes to the eastern side, it’s easier to sail in from the neighboring areas – Croatia or Montenegro. Bari is the city famous for its white-sand beaches and monument of architecture which are under the protection of the UNESCO: “Basilica of Saint Nicholas”, medieval castle “The Castello Svevo”, theatre “Teatro Piccinni”, palace “Palazzo dell'Acquedotto Pugliese", The Old Town of Bari, etc.

Italy is divided into six historical regions:

  1. The Tuscan Archipelago: Islands Elba, Monte – Cristo, Giannutri, Pianosa and several others.
  2. Venice
  3. Liguria: region from France to Tuscany.
  4. Sicily: Aegadian and Lipari Islands.
  5. Naples and nearby islands Capri, Amalfi, Ischia.

Weather in Italy

The period from June to September is considered to be the best time for a yacht charter in Italy. The country lies from the north to the south and the territory`s climate is mild.  Even in Ligurian Riviera which is extended further to the northwest, the winter temperature does not go below (+7 - +10°С), but goes up to + 77 °F - 80.6 °F (+25 - +27°С) during summer.

However, the water temperature of the Tuscan Archipelago significantly differentiates from other five regions: at the beginning of the summer it does not exceed + 64.4.

The winds are gentle but sometimes there is a hot and wet flow “Sirocco”. Also, "Mistal” and “Libeccio” winds are likely to blow in the summer while “Tramontane” might occur in the winter (up to 10 according to Beaufort scale).

Visa

Tourists require the Schengen visa to enter the territory.

Getting to Italy

Usually, airports are located in major cities close to each sailing area. At the Ligurian Riviera – in Milan, Genoa and Nice; the Tuscany region – in Rome, Florence and Pisa; in Sicily – Palermo, and Catania.

It is also possible to find some flights in Venice and Naples. Also, there are some charter flights to Sicily, Sardinia, Naples, Salerno, and the Elbe.
